Here’s an adorable stray (most likely abandoned) kitten we found just yesterday and took to the vet to get her shots and check-up. Unofficial name: “Scruffles” I Could Pee on This and Other Poems by Cats Available from these very fine retailers:
Ah, sounds like feline herpes. It can also cause sneezing/nasal discharge in kittens. Antiviral eyedrops are effective. Also, adding lysine powder to the food can help prevent recurrences.
I bet someone abandoned her because of the eye. Seriously. I volunteer at a shelter and many people will dump animals when something goes wrong with them. Fortunately, there are a lot of people who go out of their way to adopt animals with problems, so it partially balances out.
Oh, also good on you for taking in a black cat. Black cats and dogs get adopted at lower rates than other animals of the same size, breed, health, and age. No one’s sure if it’s an aesthetic thing or superstition or what, but it holds true all across English-speaking North America.

Scruffles is a lucky girl. Good kitty.
Scruffles is a cutie pie. And clearly a little uncertain of this particular outcome. 🙂
What’s with her eyes? Is it a bug or a feature?
At first we feared it was a cloudy eye or scar but the vet said it should clear up with eye drops and some care.

Congratulations, Ces. What a beauty! And yes, what a lucky little girl. I hope to meet her some day. Until then, please keep posting photos.
congrats! we expect daily* updates.
*allright, we’ll settle for weekly updates.
did I mentioned how much I like the ‘Scruffles’ strips?
guess I just did
You’re doing a great thing.
Thank you for saving Scruffles! ❤
d’awww, Ces.
She’s adorable and is inspiring good cartoons. Today’s made me LOL. (OK, I chuckled mildly)
The stray kitten I took in had some eyeball virus. One of his eyes gets watery now and again 6 years later, but the vet says it’s harmless.
Weekly photos are a must!
Thank you all very much for your kind words, but much should be going to my girlfriend Kim, who first spotted her and jumped into action. 🙂
!yay Kim!
