A Toast to Woody Wilson, Writer of “Judge Parker”
Today marks the last Judge Parker strip scripted by Woody Wilson, a man who has written the comic since 1990 and deserves a huge round of applause for all his tremendous work on both this and, of course, Rex Morgan.
Writing a soap opera strip is unlike any other comic. It takes an ability to create resolutions that result in further revelations, do plot twists that are in service of both the story and the character, and fight off the urge to introduce an evil twin or a royal Russian family with their own private Greek island, all which I would do if General Hospital wouldn’t sue me.
It is not an easy job, something that I am not only finding out but will almost certainly prove again and again over the next coming days/months/termination. So on this day let us thank Woody for his time and talent, wish him the very best on all his future endeavors, and stop asking if the car is going to crash because yes, it’s going to crash.
See you tomorrow on a slick, dark mountain road!
