Sally Forth 40th Anniversary Special: Through the Decades

Posted in Uncategorized by cesco7 on January 9, 2022

This may be one of my favorite Sally Forth Sundays of all time (and that may include when we had Godzilla whip a train full of the characters at King Ghidorah’s head).

This all started with Jim Keefe coming up with the very idea of visiting Sally Forth through decades it never ran in, thereby allowing me to avoid ever hearing “How could you do this to Jim?!?” He then sent me three comic strip panels he would reference for me to write new dialogue for, start with Dagwood and Blondie’s wedding in the 1930s…

A Brenda Starr panel from the 1940s…

And finally a Dennis the Menace form the 1950s…

Then I threw in a Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers reference for the 1960s/1970s because sometimes you just want to see what you are allowed to do (apologies for poor copy quality)…

And the oft-unpublished title panel…

So please join us as we celebrate almost a century of 40 years!

WOW!!!! I recognized all the panels and that was BEFORE I read all them words underneath the comical strip. Yes, I am a comic strip nerd. That said…

THIS IS EVEN MORE GLORIOUSER THAN YESTERDAY!!! How do you guys do this? Is there bribe money involved? Have you invoked magical spells or eaten out of date Mac & Cheese?

Whatever, this is wonderful! Thanks for making me laugh my YKW off this morning!

I continue to be disappointed you didn’t use Wally Wood’s Sally Forth for your 1960-1970ss piece.

As much as the syndicate seems to let these guys go hog wild, I suspect that might be pushing the limit a bit much. Too bad, though! I like the way you think!

Fabulous and brilliant!! Love this so much, thank you, fellow old comic strip nerd. (That’s a nerd for old comic strips, not an aging/elderly comic strip nerd. But like me, you may be both.)

Late to checking my rss feeds (yeah) but…

This whole 40-year celebration was a great series. Seeing this post just makes the kickoff even better. I could tell that Jim Keefe particularly pulled out the stops for this Sunday one.

Here’s to 40 more years of SF, by whomever may eventually be your heir to the strip. I am confident that one day Ted will get his robot monkey and jet pack.
