How about those candy dots on strips of paper? In third grade we used to pluck them off, collect a handful, and call them “uppers.”
I recall an early MAD kid-show parody (I think it was in the comic-book period) where one of the show’s sponsors was a concoction called “Bupgoo,” which, when added to a glass of milk, separated it into a clear golden liquid with a foamy head on top.
“That’s right, BUPGOO makes a glass of MILK look EXACTLY LIKE a glass of BEER! So when your kids want the beer you’re drinking, give ’em BUPGOO!”
That’s from memory!
That was the Howdy Doody one, yeah.
